Monday, May 2, 2009 - Meridian CC defeated Delgado CC 15-10 to win the NJCAA Region 23, Division 1 Championship. The Meridian Eagles scored five runs in the top of the13th inning to take the hard fouight win. Shortstop Jordan King led off the inning with a double to right center field and advanced to third base on Brent Tanner's sacrifice fly ball to right field. Tyler Vick was intentionally walked to set up a double play possibility. Pinch hitter Drew Crosby spoiled the stragedy with double to right center field driving in King and Vick to give Meridian a two run lead. Crosby was thrown out at third base trying to stretch the hit into a triple to record the second out of the inning. With two out and a two run lead William Beckwith drew a base on balls, Jonathan Pace singled to right field and Taylor Scarbrough walked to load the bases. Meridian streatched its lead to 14-10 when Kenny Sanders singled to drive in Beckwith and Pace. The 15th and final run crossed the plate when Scarbrough scored on a wild pitch.

Corey Guidry gave Delgado a chance to win the game in regulation when he hit a two out home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game at 10 runs for each team. Delgado failed to score the winning run sending the game into extra innings.

Delgado earned a spot in the championship game with a 14-13 win in the elimination game played earlier in the day. Meridian had a 12 to 10 lead going into the top of the ninth and final inning. Delgado scored four runs in the top of the inning and held Meridian to one run to take the win and set up the championship game.

Sunday, April 26, 2009 - Delgado defeated BRCC 9-6 this afternoon to claim the number one seed in the NJCAA Region 23, Division 1 League Tournament. The three team Round Robin Tournament will be played in Baton Rouge at Pete Goldsby Field starting on Saturday, May 2, 2009. Baton Rouge and Meridian will begin play at 12:00 Noon followed by the game between Baton Rouge and Delgado which is scheduled to start at 3:30 PM. The final game of the day will be between Delgado and Meridian which is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start time.

Sunday, March 22, 2009 - Meridian, MS and Baton Rouge CC played a three game series this weekend to open conferance play in NJCAA Region 23, Division I Baseball. Meridian defeated Baton Rouge 9-1 in the opening game on Saturday. Baton Rouge won the 2nd game of the doubleheader 5-4 and Meridian won the game on Sunday defeating Baton Rouge 5-2 in ten innings.
Baton Rouge, Delgado, and Meridian play 12 league games each to determine seating in the Region 23 conference playoffs scheduled to be played in Baton Rouge starting on May 1.

Saturday, March 21, 2009 - Game 1 - 2:00 PM. Meridian Community College (Tigers) defeated Baton Rouge Community College (Bears) 9-1 in the first game of a three game series played at Pete Goldsby Field. Tiger pitchers Garrett Harris and Matt Cox combined to limit Baton Rouge to 3 hits and catcher Wesley Thigpen drove in 3 runs to lead the visitors to victory.
After Meridian scored 2 runs in the top half of the 1st inning, Baton Rouge came back to score its only run in the bottom half of the inning. Kyle Gardere drew a base on balls and Evan Phillips drove a base hit to left field to set up a big inning for Baton Rouge. Catcher David Nolting drove in Gardere with a double to make the score 2-1. A fly out to shortstop and a ground ball out to third base left the Bears with men on 2nd and 3rd base with 2 out. A strike out ended the threat and Meridian went on to score seven additional runs to take the victory.

Saturday, March 21, 2009 - Game 2 - 5:00 PM
Baton Rouge and Meridian played a back and forth game with the Bears winning 5-4 to earn a split of the opening day doubleheader.
Meridian opened the scoring in the top of the second inning after two batters were retired. Tiger second baseman Jonathan Pace singled and stole 2nd base, Dalton Kulas (LF) drew a base on balls and Allen Williams (RF) drove both runners home with a double.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Baton Rouge left fielder James Morgan was hit by a pitch to open the inning. After two strike outs Hunter Decell (3B) drove a hard ground ball off of the first basemans glove to move Morgan to 3rd base. Catcher Reece Wallace drove in Morgan with a double to center field. Decell was called out at the plate attempting to score on the hit to end the inning.
Baton Rouge took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning by scoring two runs to make the score 3-2. Dustin Ardoin (1B) hit a double to open the inning and Will Farris (2B) drew a walk to put Baton Rouge runners at first and second base with no outs. Bear right fielder Blake LeBlanc hit a hard ground ball to first base scoring Ardoin and moving Farris to second base. LeBlanc was safe on the play and remained at first base. Kyle Gardere laid down a sacrifice bunt moving the base runners up one base. James Morgan (LF) drove in Farris with a sacrifice fly ball to centerfield giving Baton Rouge the lead.
In the top half of the seventh inning, Meridian scored 2 runs to reclaim the lead 4-3. Jonathan Pace got his second hit of the game leading off the inning with a double. Dalton Kulas hit a hard grounder to 2nd base that was mishandled allowing Pace to score and Kulas to reach second base. Right fielder Alan Williams drove in Kulas with a single.
Will Farris led off the bottom half of the 7th inning with a single to center field. Blake LeBlanc moved Farris into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt and Kyle Gardere drove in the Bear second baseman with a single to tie the score 4-4. James Morgan drew a base on balls to move Gardere into scoring position with two out. Baton Rouge catcher and leading hitter, David Nolting, hit a hard ground ball thru shortstop scoring Gardere and giving the Bears the 5-4 win.

Sunday, March 22, 2009 - 2:00 PM
In game three of the hard fought three game series, Meridian scored 3 runs in the top of the tenth inning to defeat Baton Rouge 5-2 and claim the series 2-1.
Baton Rouge scored first when David Nolting hit a solo home run in the bottom half of the first inning. It was Nolting's team leading sixth home run of the season.
The Bears added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Designated hitter Dustin Ardoin led off the inning with a base on balls. Blake LeBlanc reached 1st base on a fielders choice when Ardoin was forced at 2nd base on an attempted sacrifice bunt. LeBlanc advanced to 2nd base on a wild pitch and scored on a base hit single off of the bat of shortstop Kyle Gardere giving Baton Rouge a 2-0 lead.
Meridian tied the game in the top half of the 7th inning. Dalton Kulas drew a base on balls off of starting pitcher Tyler Bourque to lead off the inning. Pinch hitter drove a double to move Kulas to 3rd base. Kulas scored on a passed ball. After Bourque retired two Meridian hitters, Bret Tanner walked and Tyler Vick hit a double to score Crosby and tie the game 2-2. Chris Crane replaced Bourque and retired Wesley Thigpen on a ground ball out to third base to end the inning. Crane went on to strike out 3 hitters in three innings of work
With the score tied after nine innings, Tyler Vick slammed a home run over the left field fence to give Meridian a 3-2 lead. The Tigers scored two more runs in the inning and Baton Rouge failed to score in its final at bats to give Meridian the 5-2 overtime win.

Friday, March 6, 2009 - BRCC won two games in the Les Cliburn Showcase played in Vicksburg, MS. BRCC defeated Kishwaukee CC by the score of 15-10 in the first game and defeated Northwest, MS 10-8 in the second game of the day for the Bears. BRCC hitters slamed out 6 home runs in the two games. Catcher David Nolting hit two home runs and second baseman Luke Guillot one home run against Kishwaukee. Nolting hit his third home run of the day against Northwest, MS and first baseman Dustin Ardoin hit two in the BRCC second win of the day. Damian Babineaux was the winning pitcher against Kishwaukee and Kurt Charpentier got the win against Northwest CC. Joseph Morales closed both games and was credited with the saves.


Sunday, February 22, 2009 - Dustin (Dude) Ardoin hit a pinch hit double with the bases loaded driving in three runs as BRCC defeated Holmes CC 8-3 in the final game of a 4 game series. Holden Jewell pitched four strong innings in relief to get the victory. With 2 outs BRCC had three straight hits before Ardoin's big blast.

Tuesday, February 17, 2009 - Hunter Desell had two hits including his first home run of the 2009 season in game 1 of two seven inning games played against Hinds CC.
Santiago Cordova had 2 hits including a double to lead the Bears in the second game.

Sunday, February 15, 2009 - Luke Guillot had 3 hits and 2 RBI's against East Central Mississippi and Anthony Dilligard hit his fifth home run of the season against Andrews College in games played at Decatur, MS.

Tuesday, February 10, 2009 - BRCC won its second game of the season by defeating Mississippi Gulf Coast 5-4 in a game that lasted elevan innings. Anthony Dilligard led off the bottom half of the eleventh inning with a single to left field and James Morgan laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Dilligard to second base. After a base on balls to Brent Hildago, Luke Guillot lined a single to centerfield scoring Dilligard with the game winning run. Kurt Charpentier (2-IP, 0-R, 1-H, 3-K) got the win in relief after solid pitching efforts by starting pitcher Tyler Bourque ( 4.2 IP, 4 R, 3 H, 3K) and relievers Chris Crane (1.1 IP, 0 R, 1H) and Dustin Ardoin (3-IP, 0-R, 2-H, 2K).

Mississippi Gulf Coast defeated BRCC 4-3 in the opening game of the series. Corey Groue hit a 3 run home run in the top of the fifth inning to lead the way to victory for the Bulldogs. Anthony Dilligard hit a home run the bottom of the sixth inning for BRCC giving him 4 home runs for the season. Joseph Morales (4-IP, 3-R, 5-H, 2-K) started on the mound and pitched 4 strong innings before being relieved by Matt Myers (0 - 1), ( 2-IP, 1-R, 1-H, 1-K) in the top of the fifth inning. Cody Hall( 1-IP, 0-R, 0-H, 2-K) pitched the seventh inning for the Bears.
